How to determine if Video Card can handle certain resolution

Ok...here's more to the question.

I recently bought a BFG 7900GS OC Video card.
It says on the specs that it can handle up to 2560x1600.

Now I've seen forums where they say that at 1900 x 1200 you should probably have two video cards handling it.

I do some gaming mostly RTS and I may switch from my 19" to a 24" WS LCD.

Was wondering what determines if the Video card can handle it?
Or does the video card spec says it all?

Can someone clear this up?

it means that the video card is capable of outputting 2560x1600, but what people mean by saying you should have 2 cards is that, in a game, at that high of a resolution it slows down a lot on a single card. but the card should have no problems outputting 2560x1600 to a monitor if the monitor can support it. just in a game, it'll probably run really slow. don't change your video card or add another yet; if you get the new monitor, see how your card runs, if it's too slow, then upgrade. if not, then fine. if you don't get the new monitor and your card's fine then it's not even a problem .
