a tale told by UPS. monitor crushed and destroyed, pics to follow. lesson learned, please use more than half a box worth of peanuts.

i have not tested it yet, i am assuming its broken. UPDATED: it was officedepot who packed it and shipped the monitor. there's gotta be a way to get some money back for that horrible job. thecomputer that went alone with the monitor was well packed.

well i'm assuming it was insured and there is the minimum $100 which is probably about what its worth since it an older monitor (20" apple multiple scan), then again, i dont think UPS gives you a claim, if you pack it that bad.
 
Yeah I think your responsible for your own shipping... so its the guy who sent it to you...

unless its obviously damage by the postal ppl

too often i think people are in a hurry,when packaging
maybe they want to get the stuff,quickly out to the trader,they sold the items to.
we all like quick shipping, but broken stuff is no bargain either, 🙁
 
jesus... styrofoam peanuts is not something you rely on to protect a monitor. Sure hope this monitor was insured, that way MAYBE there is a chance to regain the loss.

Yes, I keep all packaging. Most people like having the retail box. Easier to sell.

Yup, gotta agree with Creekman here.
Is that all that was used to pack it? Kinda leaning towards the shipper's misjudgement in packing material, I wouldn't blame it on UPS at this point.

Bubble Wrap and double boxed would have done the trick sense there wasn't the original packing material.

I keep everything, too, for the exact same reason.

 
I had a laptop delivered in that condition by UPS, actually worse, they tore a hole in the box and all the peanuts except about 20 were left. Luckily it was still under warranty, I got it restored to new 🙂
 
what a nightmare. If I sold a monitor to someone, i'd pack it with 8 rolls of bubble rap, 6 pounds of paper, and rags if possible.
 
You pretty much need to crate something that big if you do not have the original packing materials for it.

The carrier is only as bad as the originating shipper's packaging. I ship almost exclusively with UPS and have never had a problem with an item arriving damaged, but then I package items as I'd want them to be packaged if I were the recipient. I've *received* enough poorly packaged items to know that I would NOT want to be on someone's $hit list for shoddy packing.

The cardinal rule in using any shipping service is to remember that packages get thrown around, tossed off loading docks, tossed onto trucks and just generally abused in transit. If you pack items expecting them to go through this abuse, they're more likely to survive it. I look at it this way - I'm not paying UPS (or any other carrier) to treat MY packages like they're special, I'm just expecting them to get them from point A to point B. The condition of the contents when the package gets there is entirely up to me and how I protect the items IN the package.

heheh u should of seen the packing for my 21 inch sony, like 9 inchs EXTRA on all sides for THICK HARD foam lol ,,,, its well worth it payni extra for the hardcore packing
 
UPS just sucks with monitors.

I had two 21" shipped to me (from 2 different people) and when they arrived, they both have cracks on the casing. These were pack in their original foam/packing too.

A couple years ago I sent a 17" from school to home and they screwed that one too (as if they put a huge magnet on one side of the monitor)..

If I can help it, I wouldn't ship via UPS again. I also got a big box shipment that looks like it's been kicked around. Good thing inside it was packaged well and nothing broke.
 
After losing a 21 inch monitor and a computer to UPS well packed and they denied insurance claim I would never give them a dime of my time on anything of value. But that was poorly packed. If he had packed it like a pro it would only look half that bad with UPS... IMHO
