Ive run into this several times and cant remember how to kill it. Someone has partitioned a hard drive with an extended DOS partition and the original primary partition is gone. I try to delete the extended partition and Fdisk says it cant delete because it has logical drives. I try to view or delete logical drives and it says none defined so cant delete. How the hell do I get rid of this Extended DOS partition and have the full drive to create a primary on?

If you have a linux boot disk or CD around, linux fdisk/cfdisk can usually take care of this, too. I think the problem has something to do with the differences between Win98 and Win2K/XP partitioning tools.

Thanks for the tip cleverhandle. :) Delpart did the trick this time fortunately, but my floppy drive died in progress so I had to swap drives and got it all fixed up now. Thanks to all. :)
