How to Deal with DELL? As a small business, not personal

OK, I've had my share of unpleasant encounters with DELL as a consumer, however I've recently been tasked with procuring a server in my job and really need to get this done ASAP. I've had no idea as a SB customer I'd have the same problems I did as a home consumer.

First of all, the company I worked for had a previous account with DELL, until our parent company outsourced everything to IBM (another clusterf***). We had split with our parent company and now we are on the way of phasing out everything IBM looking for another contractor. In the meantime we need to procure a development server so I told my boss DELL thinking they will be easier and cheap.

I placed the order, put in my company ID number and checked out. However they say I need to further confirm info with their rep, who should be contacting me soon. So ok, I receive an email acknowledging the order, and after waiting for 2 days I get no emails, while I did send a few emails out to their customer service and received no response. Called them up today very pissed off and only to talk to the same GODDAM INDIAN TEAM for Home Sales. this guy can't even spell my name right (finally did after 3 times). After explaining the whole situation to him all I get is an accented canned response "I'm sorry i can't help you further here I will have to redirect you (back to America)"

After talking to another rep I finally got to the point where they will let me talk to a SB sales rep, only to get his answering machine. I'm gonna email bomb this mofo and ask them to call me back. I mean I'm placing a server that cost 10k!! It's not a lot but damn, doesn't anybody there work for commission? WTF is this putting me on hold kicking me over 5 different continents for a SERVER SALE??? :disgust:

I'm done ranting, if you deal with Dell as a business, please share with me your experiences, also contacts for good sales reps are appreciated. I wouldn't mind getting good deals even though it IS company money.

Thanks

I've had horrible experiences with dell myself.. I just stopped buying their stuff and referred other companies besides dell to my family, friends, and work places... :disgust:

I've had nothing but good experiences with dell. This ranges from personal use to supplying the last company I worked for with over 35+ pc's, 15 laptops, and 2 servers. They gave great support and I've been very happy with them.

I just purchased an Axim v50x and I decided I didn't want it. i just emailed them and they said send it back and that was it. I also ordered a 2nd case for it and they told me just to keep it and credited my card.

I buy all my stuff under Small Business and get great discounts.

brassman: i know dell home is pretty horrible (i should know i had a hard time trying to return some refurb machine just last week) but i expected better from DELL SB

likelinus: did you get the discount from their weekly default discounts or did you have a designated rep who constantly gave you great deals when you call him up?

The place I work has had HORRIBLE experiences with Dell. Long story short, we bought a Dimension XPS which was supposed to be Dell's only computer that had two serial ports so we could hook up both of our embroidery machines to it (which it did not, btw). They also charged us for an extra monitor and my boss has been dealing with them for months over it. We got a call back from them the other day and my boss told them again what happened and they said they had never been contacted about it before, and that they were sending it to a collection agency. Complete BS, avoid Dell for small business purchases at all costs.

Sure, you definitely would expect better from the SB division...but no. I've had bad experiences with them too at work. :disgust: They're just retarded.

I've never had a bad experience with Dell. We use Dell exclusively but have pretty much the highest end contract we can get since we have many thousands of systems from them. Dell is such a huge company, obviously there are going to be more people that have problems because they have more people buying from them. But I've never experienced anything like the horror stories some people talk about.

We use Dell exclusively here, as well, and have nothing but good things to say. Complete Care absolutely rocks for laptops, their tech. support is excellent (don't buy the cheapest warranty coverage, Gold support = American Tech. Support.)

If you really are sick of their tech. support, train to become a Dell Certified Systems Engineer (or something like that) and you can just tell them what parts you need and they send it out, no questions asked. :D

I have had a great experience with them but I have got the run around a time or two, but in the end it all worked out.
