I had my raid controller in MB fail (see my other post in the forum). Which brings up the question how can create Raid 1 setup that you can easily restore if the controller itself fails? Most Raid 1 you has facilities you so you can replace HD.
Solution for controller when it fails to seem to be buy the exact same controller again so it recognizes the HDs. However if a very old (say 10 year) controller and you can't find that controller anymore, what do you do?
If you had a backup, I guess you can destroy and recreate a raid on new controller. However, that will be time consuming. Any way to just move all HD to new computer and have old raid up an working immediately with have buy same type of controller?
I am not sure, but I think linux's fake raid might be solution. I think Linux raid is on the OS level and nothing to do with controller. If so, *I think* just maybe you can move HD to new controller or computer and just run configure/run linux OS installer to get it up and running. Of course won't for Windows or dual boot.
Any ideas of how actually how to do this? For my next computer, I am make sure I have solution for this for easy and quick move to another computer if anything at all fails.
