This guide shows you what software to use to make perfect mp3's. Hopefully, after you try this and compare it to your old MP3's, you'll delete all your old MP3's and redo them again. :p

Unless you need to use you mp3's outside your PC your better off using EAC with the Ogg Vorbis 1.0 codec. It's well known that .ogg files soud better than MP3 at all bit rates, and thats including the LAME codec.

How about using the Anandtech FAQ's, this stuff has been covered there for many months now...

0\\/|\|3d~! ;) sometimes I wonder if we should go back to stickied threads advertising the FAQs instead of the little link in the yellow bar in every forum.

All in all a pretty good article with at least a couple of obvious errors. ;)

Learn the ins and outs of this great format.
There's nothing great about MP3 as a format.
The only real advantages are the large user base and the available hardware support. If neither of these is an issue I see no reason to use MP3. (If you only want to listen to music on your computer there are much better alternatives out there)

MAD is arguably the best decoding engine available for MP3s today
The "advanced dithering algorithm" used by MAD differs from the Winamp's native FhG decoder only in the lsb which can hardly be called "audibly superior" (in fact most people probably won't ever hear any difference). MAD does have one useful feature - clipping attenuation, but even that isn't necessary if you use MP3Gain. When you add the problems MAD has with streaming audio you might be better off using the Winamp FhG decoder.
