How to create bootable system recovery disks?

Just like discs that comes with Hp and dell laptop recovery discs. What software would I need for this task? And how do I go about accomplishing this?

Do you have the disks already? If so, have you tried burning duplicates using Nero or Alcohol? I think I burned a back-up for the last HP rig I bought, but i'm not 100% sure.
