How to copy text messages from iphone to PC/Mac

I have googled it, there are paid applications like iexplorer to do that. But can't seem to find a simple, free way to do it. Would appreciate any help / suggestions.

There ain't a free way to do it. And now Apple iTunes backup doesn't back SMS up so even the paid for apps have the clause YMMV.
