I do not know, but the article says several minutes. They mention it costing around 3 pounds per call per phone at 10p per minute-ish. I suspect that the phones do not generate enough energy to raise the temperature of the egg for a few reasons.

1. The heat will dissapate faster than it can be collected.
   
2. When Microwaving there are hot and cold spots, I think since the phone is not hot enough energy (power/watts) the cold spots of the egg will keep the potential hot spots from heating up.
   
3. A pair of 100 Watt Cellphones might be needed before you could see any results, Just suspicion though.

Guys, I didn't even think about trying it. Shens is right.

I used to install cellular equipment. A entire cell tower output is around 240 watts. The only reqirements we had with the actual antenna was not to stand within 7 feet of the front of the antenna. I don't figure this would work. Unscrew a connection in the shed itself though, thats a different matter, the microwaves would make a little red blood blister on your finger that hurt like hell since it was actually your finger getting cooked from the inside out.

and remember that cooking time will be proportional to the inverse square of the output power for a given distance from egg to phone.

They don't expect you to know what an antenna is, but they expect them to know what that means... :roll:

It probably wasn't a good idea to take the antenna load off of the transmitter!!!
