According to basic behavioral studies, if you punch him in the face, or smack him with a baseball bat everytime he smokes, then he will relate the smoking to the pain of a bat, and chances are he will give up smoking.

Ever heard of second hand smoke, you fvcking idiot.

Then leave.

Seriously... is it that fvcking hard to walk away? Unless he is giving you a shotgun quit bitching.

What's wrong with trying to convince your friend to stop smoking? It is bad for his friend, and as a friend I don't see it out of place to try to get him to stop.

If he isn't receptive to the attempt, and doesn't even want to consider quitting, well then mind your own buisness. But I actually think it isn't out of place to at least try once.

your 'friend' is going to know immediately that your concern is for yourself and yourself alone...... your 'friend' will laugh in your face......
Is this the best one-up you can find?.... put him down for smoking..... how pathetic!

Yes.

Way to top up that post count. Wanker.

Here's an idea for you. Why don't you go right up to them and yell "stop smoking!" Then they can blow a few rings in your face between telling you to STFU and MYOB.

Whore. You honestly think your efforts will accomplish anything but a waste of both yours and your "friend's" time? Some of my friends smoke. Know what I do? I leave the area and let them puff away. Or I just stand upwind and let them enjoy their smooth tobacco flavour all on their own.

You've watched one too many sixth-grade anti-smoking videos. Next thing you know, you'll be pulling the "they're going to burn down their house/blow up their car/torch a forest" lines those FUDmonkeys spread.

In conclusion, stop posting.

Don't bother. Anybody who smokes and does that not because they can't quit but because they don't think it's worth it is a moron of the most epic proportions. So epic in fact it would require a 6 movie release each 3 hours in duration.

Poontos - The Sextupology
An epic story of the struggle between one dumbass and his smoking friends. Be sure to stick around after the credits for the deleted scene where the entire cast and crew beats the Stupid out of him!

Sadly I am one of Skoorbie's epic moronic friend who smokes ocasionally. 🙁

In the real world, post high school, friends are a voluntary thing -- people you associate with for mutual beneficial reasons and not just because you're stuck going to the same damn place every day together. At this point (which some call maturity), you learn to either accept your friends for who they are, or find new ones.
Either find some new ones who don't smoke, accept their smoking, or (if you decide to push your anti-smoking campaign in their faces) accept the fact that they will tell you to mind your own fscking business.

Actually, you are quite wrong. I convinced my friend to stop smoking, completely over instant messenger. He goes to school in California, and me in Oregon. So I never saw him face to face. He said he had started smoking, we talked about it, and he stopped a couple weeks later.

It isn't about "one uping" or "putting him down." I was concerned for his health and well being.

He thanks me for doing it today, a year later.

Why the chip on your shoulder?

Because everyone over the age of 10 knows that smoking is bad. If they want to quit they will.

Yes, but other factors can contribute. Like I just posted, my friend started smoking freshman year of college. He knew it was stupid, but he had a crush on a chick who smoked and also felt some peer pressure to do so.

I discussed it with him and helped him come to the realization that it wasn't something he wanted to do. He is glad I did so. I don't see what is wrong with that.

So what? People do stupid things, even if they know they are bad. It is nice to have a friend there to point out when your are making a mistake. At least it is to me and my friends.

I'm not going to go up to random people and say "smoking is stupid you need to stop." But I see it as a moral obligation to at least inform my friends and loved ones that they are making a poor choice, whether it be smoking, heroin, shoplifting, drinking and driving, or whatever.

Nobody but nobody quits smoking just because a friend asked them to or told them that it was bad (like no one knows that
rolleye.gif
). Virtually everyone who quits smoking does so because they want to quit smoking and only because they want to quit smoking. There are cases when a person will quit smoking because an extremely close family member asked them to, but those are rare exceptions.

Telling someone "Dude, that's nasty, butt out" is different than this. For some reason I have visions of this dumbass posting those lung-cancer pics & "SMOKING IS TEH DUMBX0R" all over this guy's car/house/locker/etc.

My friend did, though there was more to it than "stop smoking" or "it's bad for you."

A lot more I am sure.

you cannot make anybody want to quit, they would have to want to quit and will do it on thier own (i was a former smoker and have quit cold for about a month now). i never wanted to quit, but then bam one day i quit smoking everything. i tell you i haven't felt this good in a while.
but whatever my friends would tell me, i wouldn't care. nothing could change my mind. nothing. it has to be the person wanting change.

I have the same intentions as datalink7. I care about my friends health, unlike some of you who have told me to *******.

Hmm... lets try and follow your idiotic logic: Everyone over the age of 16 knows if you exceed the speed limit, you will get a ticket, your insurance rates will increase, and you risk your life and others.

Nice try, thanks for coming out. Wanker.

Maybe Datalink7's friend did want to quit and he just needed a little support. Whatever you guys say, there is not anything wrong with that.
