How to convince dad to get e-quake insurance?

I'm having difficulty in convincing my dad to get earthquake insurance and I'm not sure how to go about convincing him to get some.. We have around 5K square foot house in the bay area and I'm worried about the impending earthquake that will occur in the bay area. It's goanna be a big one and I'm pretty sure our house will suffer extensive damage because of this e-quake. He says hes more worried about 'his family getting out alive'...

Do you realize how much earthquake insurance costs? For my small 810 sq fr home, it's $400 a year, and it will require a TOTAL loss in order to payout.

Use the premium calcuator

$250,000 home with 10% deductable, depending on age of structure, ranges $1000-$1500.

$25,000 loss required. Though earthquakes happen, this isn't some 3rd world country with junk building codes. Look at the lastest bay area earthquake. Compare to number of homes that didn't get destroyed. Gamble.

Looking a pile of rubble that was once a way overvalued piece of real estate... $675,000...
Being able to say "I told you so..." Priceless...

load up simcity 2000, then introduce some earthquakes to your city. Show him.

Ah, I think if you could run a disasters in the sims would be awesome! Man, just loading up a house in the sims and running a disaster like an earthquake would be awesome! Could use the physx accelerator and see a demonstration you could relate to! 😛

He's talking about the buildup of tension in the faults, causing the earthquake that will happen to be a very big one. Think 10+ on the Richter Scale.

10 sound a bit high and exaggerated, are you serious? (Sarcasm meter is being RMA'd)

Why do you call it e-quake? I thought it it was some kind of quake that happens electronically. Why couldn't you just say " 'quake "?

I honestly thought something about Quake 3 when I saw that.

99% of houses didn't fall over in 1989. Mine didn't. He'll be fine.

Just an FYI, 1. Back in '89 when we had the quake, the second story almost fell into the garage (walls cracked all the way across, massive work was done to fix the garage)
2. The 1906 quake was 30X greater in strength than the Loma Prieta quake, 30 TIMES STRONGER, can you imagine?
