Oh my god people... do you not know that Windows XP requires more RAM than any other version of Windows?!?!?! Hence my equation

256 MB RAM + Windows XP = JUNK for MS Flight

MS Flight requires a lot of RAM to run properly... and if you believe the minimum specs printed on the box or the website are anywhere near what it takes to create a good gaming experience, you obviously don't play games.

Reread my goddamn message. The extra 256 MB costs like 40 bucks, tell him to quit being a cheapass. Like I siad, you are just as bad as your uncle.

And another $100 for a decent Ti4200... now you're close to $600 again...

Then level with him, and tell him, A, he'll get a better deal and be happier overall with a computer from Dell than from Best Buy (Worse Buy), and B, if he wants to play Flight 4004, or whatever it is, he should spend $600 for the better video card and a tad more RAM. Then, leave him alone. Afterall, it's his money, right?

Come back when you're not going to be an arrogant fvck and ask us for opinions and then not listen.

If your uncle wants to play FS2004, then you will need a Ti4200 for decent graphics or play it base-level with the integrated. It will work.
You wil need 512 MB RAM no matter what, it's a few bucks more than 256 MB, deal with it.

There is no more point to this thread. What exactly are you asking? The title of this thread was to convince a know-it-all that a custom-built machine is better. Well, it isn't. That's the end of this thread right there. And besides, I doubt you can build a PC for $600 that includes shipping and a legitimate copy of Windows that will beat the Dell, anyways. factor in the other software that they give you and there's no way you can beat the price of the Dell, and while the Dell software may not be great, their imaging program and MMJB are functional enough for 85% of their users.

But the fact of the matter is you cannot build a PC, unless you cut corners and pirate every piece of software, for the price of the Dell in question. And if you get lucky you might be able to catch it on sale.
