How to convert Widescreen DVD to Full Screen DVD for MP3 player?

I have a 4 gig mp3/video player and the software it came with will convert dvds and other video files to 320x240 mpeg4 or wmv for playing on it, however when it is a 16:9 ws dvd its even harder to watch it since it doesnt use all of the already small screen. Any suggestions? I was hoping there might be an all-in-one solution

I use AutoGK and it has an option for 'chopping off' the sides of a 16:9 source to make it either 4:3 or 5:4 before encoding the file.
