Hi,

I've enabled VSS on a server. Is there a way to control who is able to restore files on a shared folder using the clients?

For instance, I would like all users to have full access to all the files within a shared folder. But I would only like certain people to be able to restore a file using the Previous Clients tab in WinXP.

Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

I don't think you can do it.

My biggest worry with "Previous Versions" restoration is that somebody will replace an entire folder's worth of files when all they wanted to do was replace a single one. In this case, all changes to ALL files in the folder would be lost.

If version control is important to you, you might take a look at controlling your shared folders via SharePoint.

I haven't had a chance to mess around with VSS restoring but if one group, say users, have read access can they still restore? Only setup Mgrs with r/w to the share then, if that would work.

Currently I'm in a love hate relationship with SharePoint and Project server 07. They open a vary large can of worms.
