Turkey to stop teaching evolution in high school​

Turkish high school students will no longer be taught the theory of evolution.
The subject has been cut from the curriculum under changes made to eliminate "controversial" topics, the head of the national board of education, Alpaslan Durmus, announced in a video address.

Erdogan has been vocal about wanting to raise "a pious generation."

This seems to be the go-to tactics/politics around the globe for the last couple of decades, be it right wing America, Afghan Taliban, North Korea, ISIS etc etc. Reduce education increase religon maintain power. How do we combat this trend, is it time for a few good men and women to do something different than nothing?
 
Regress into Theocracy. That'll fix...umm..err what?

What to do? First, don't follow them off that cliff. Most of the West isn't, but the US has been rushing towards it for decades now and in fact is closer than ever to going over it.

Rushing into it so fast we have gay marriage, more people able to use the bathroom of their choosing, people getting fined for refusing to serve gay patrons, openly gay pastors, deacons, etc in churches, tattoos everywhere and are cool now, pornography on demand etc., etc,

Unless you are looking at the US thirty years or more ago you are looking at the wrong country,

yet it is somehow cool for those calling themselves liberals to apologize and defend the state sanctioned homophobic, misogynistic religious right of the middle east and their Westboro Baptist type mentality because in their minds they score some sort of self righteous political points against religions they hate while in reality undermining the very secular beliefs and practices that allowed them to break free from the shackles of religion in the first place.

Those in Power oppose all those things. Numerous States are constantly trying to reverse them, much of Trump's administration will also work to reverse them. Criticizing and/or pointing these things out is not defending/apologizing for what is happening in the Middle East. It is protecting our own Asses from falling into the same fate.
 
Interesting that you added North Korea to your list of countries that use this as a tactic. Do you actually believe the DPRK teaches its nuclear scientists that the theory of evolution is a lie, or in other ways denies reality? Or did you just toss them in there because...?

Isn't North Korea the country that declares as reality that their leader does not defecate or urinate, that he shot a single round of golf at 38 under par, that he invented the hamburger, cured dwarfism, etc.... I would posit that North Korea is the most reality divorced country on the planet.

Do you really believe DPRK teaches it's nuclear scientists anything? North Korea merely uses people educated elsewhere.
 
Microbe to man, pine tree, and blue whale evolution IS nonsense but students need to learn about it. Accepting it makes people dumber than they otherwise would be though.

And yet we have the theory of evolution that explains how it happens. But forget about that, shut down all research facilities because evolution isn't true and we only need one vaccine and one type of antibiotics.

Also, cell mutation being a part of the theory of evolution means that that has to go too so now cancer doesn't happen and kids are not actually genetic offspring of their mother and father, they are a gift from God stuck up the vagina magically.

The rest of the world is pointing and laughing and you want this to persist because you don't even have the knowledge it takes to pass middle school biology in any other nation than the USA... No wonder there are no Americans left in research in the US, all imported on H1B1 visas.

Tell me, where is it you fail so hard, is it where small changes occur via mutations, where genetic offspring are not identical to their parents or is it where changes in environment happen over time? Or is it the time aspect you have problems with? You don't think that inches add up to light years given enough time to travel?

yes, cell mutations create entire new species, this has been observed in real time among shellfish, fruit flies and yeast.

Denying reality doesn't make you more intelligent, lacking the knowledge and understanding of basic biology to a point where anyone from every western nation except the US can best you in these topics does not make you more intelligent or loyal to your preferred deity (be it Allah, Shiva or Jesus). It just makes you wilfully ignorant.
