How to connect speakers to reciever?

Hello

I have a vintage H/K 330b receiver with what looks like binding posts without the hole in the middle. Do I just wrap the speaker wire (12AWG- is this too thick?) around the posts and screw them down?
Also, the speaker section on the receiver is marked {Right GRD} {Left GRD} with two posts under each. As I understand the positive (red) wire will go to the right/left and negative (black) to the ground?

I want to be sure as I tried the above and the right speaker played really low, then some smoke appeared and a fuse blew which i hope is the only thing wrong.

Yes, just wrap wire around post. Or if the post have banana clamps in the middle that would be cool too. And there is no such thing as too thick of a speaker cable.


Actually I dont think you use the ground. If I recall the model has a right grd grd left on the left and another right grd grd left on the left if looking from behind. Use the one on your left side. If your speaker wire has a white line or any mark on it that would be the ground. I could be wrong tho. Also, see it the posts are in the main amp or not. And yes, I think that model has speaker fuses.

I would use the white or marked as power since the usual colour coding is either red or white as opposed to black for ground.
