I have disabled Error reporting from the System Properties Window on the Advanced Tab where you can select error reporting options, I have disabled the Error Reporting Service, and I have even Enabled the Turn off Error Reporting option in Group Policy Editor. But when my wireless mouse program encountered an error and stopped, I still got a Report Error Dialog box with the option to Send an error report to Microsoft????? WHy in the heck is that????? I checked the options, and all Error Reporting is totally disabled still??? I want this stupid intrusive Error Reporting service completely turned off!!!!!! I almost feel that Microsoft isintentionally doing this do they can try and force you to report errors even though you have it disabled!!!! So how do I completely disable this worthless error reporting if what I have already disabled so happens to not be enough?????

We do use the error reporting data to prioritize fixes for products, as do most major vendors. Your really (IMHO) doing yourself a disservice by not sending crash data in.

I personally don't want it on and there's nothing wrong with that!! I have heard rumors that more data than just the crash data is sent to MS with little knowledge from most people. I personally do not want it enabled!! I take security and my privacy very seriously!!! So are you a MS employee or something? And if so, are you admitting that it's ok to give users the false presumption that when you turn off error reporting, it is not really turned off?????? Now answer that for me!!!!!!! That is just wrong if anybody from MS believes that's an ok thing to do. Well, it wouldn't surprise me the least bit that Microsoft would do something like that with all the stories I hear about their customer intrusion in the past trying to muscle people into only Microsoft stuff and nothing else even if it comes at the expense of your privacy!!!!

Woah there calm down dude. You are biting his head off for trying to help you. Chill out!!

He is right, they wouldn't have it if they didn't need it. Whenever your computer crashes if you ever want it fixed i would keep it enabled. Sounds like you get this a lot, so maybe instead of killing us at the forums for trying to help you why dont you go invest some money in a decent stable system.

In the advanced tab it should be read Disable Error Reporting Service, But notify me when a critical error occurs, that way you know that something happened and can do something about it.

Noobs these days, we give a litte they eat us up

Fine, I'm just pointing out that most users who make that statement initially don't realize the crash data really is there to make the OS better for everyone.

I have heard rumors that more data than just the crash data is sent to MS with little knowledge from most people.

Your wrong.

I take security and my privacy very seriously!!!

There are no security or privacy implications to the service.

So are you a MS employee or something?

No, I work for a different company, we just use the crash data via Microsoft to make our products better.

Well, it wouldn't surprise me the least bit that Microsoft would do something like that with all the stories I hear about their customer intrusion in the past trying to muscle people into only Microsoft stuff and nothing else even if it comes at the expense of your privacy!!!!

I don't have crashes a lot. The problem just started to happen yesterday. The mouse still worked, but for some reason, the software that gives you customization options just would crash and it would always give me the option to restart. It really was no big deal. I just upgraded the drivers for it a few days ago and the problem appears to be gone. Well anyways, back on topic. For whatever reason it may be, I don't want that Error reporting dialog box to come up when I have a system or application crash. I just want a dialog box to come up just as it would in Windows 2000 if an application or system crash occurs. On the Advanced Tab under Error Reporting, I have it set to Disable Error Reporting and I have the box Unchecked to notify me when critical errors occur. If Notify Me when critical errors occur box is selected, does that mean it will still give you the option to report them to MS, or does it just mean it will give you the details of the critical error. But back to my original question, I have all error reporting disabled, and why did a dialog box still pop up with the option to send the error report to MS??? You say they put it there because they really need it?? Well Windows 2000 didn't have it and Windows 2000 SP2 or higher is just as stable as Windows XP. So, how do I turn it off all together so it will do the same as what Windows 2000 did which is not have any choice to report errors to MS?

Well disable it under Control Panel>>Admin Options>> Services > Error Reporting service.

I would leave it though on disabled but notify when error occurs.

Well Windows 2000 didn't have it and Windows 2000 SP2 or higher is just as stable as Windows XP.

And you can thank XP for that, overall driver stability has improved considerably due to error reporting. Most of those drivers are for 2K also.

Open the Windows Registry with your favorite editor and navigate to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PCHealth\ErrorReporting
To disable Error Reporting, make sure all of the values located in this key are set to zero

This is precisely the reason why Microsoft sucks so bad. They don't let you have control over your own computer, they won't let you actually turn off services you don't want, then their response is "b/c it's for your own good." B.s.! People are finally starting to figure out that microsoft is the least efficient company. Here we go google!! Microsoft is going down.
