Hello!

I'm running XP Pro. I have it the way I like it. All the clone programs I see, want to copy the entire partition to the new drive. I have several drives and an array. On my new stripped array I left a 10 gig partition. I'd like to clone my XP Pro over to it and have it bootable.

my XP Pro drive unfortunately has a lot of music and videos filling it.

So, what free or commercial app will aalow me to clone just my System to a virging Partition and allow it to boot.

Thank you!

acronis true image 10, not 11, will have to ask for "it"only though, create the bootable recovery cd, takes a knowledge to get use to, would be better to create the image to another HD and NEVER defrag that drive.

Thank you. I'll be trying it soon. Let me understand. I make the True Image 10 recovery CD first. Run off the CD? Then what steps do I take to tell it to copy just the OS from the C drive to the 10 gig H drive?

Thanks.

install acronis first and reboot, then create the bootable CD.[ the bootable CD is used to recover your image when windows will not boot into the OS, it allows you acess to the HD restore image]

clean your system up and defrag, reboot.

create an image from within windows and place the image onto an internal HD, other than the 1 windows is on.

if recovery mode is ever needed its wise to use a PS2 keyboard and mouse during recovery!

You can also use Norton Ghost to clone your drive. If you already have a copy of the executable (GHOST.EXE or GHOSTPE.EXE), you won't have to install anything. The program will run from a bootable floppy disk. If your machine supports booting from a USB flash drive, it will also run from that.

I've heard that the latest versions of Ghost are different, but I use the version that came with my SystemWorks 2003, and it always works.
