How to clean pet urine smell from large area

Have a dog and I'm not being a perfect owner and let him run off and chew his toys by himself sometimes and while I'm doing work or doing something else and not paying attention, he'll pee and of course it'll smell but the problem is that the carpet is very dark so you cannot see where it is so I know he has done it many times and I can smell the unrine from an area about 7'x7' and it's a large area to clean up so spot cleaners won't work well but should I just spray the carpet spot cleaners over the area and let it sit for a while to get the smell out? I'm getting rid of the carpet in about a month or two so don't want to get and special vacuums or anything, just something to get the smell out. How would lemon and water work?

Get a black light, that will help you find the stains. Use White Vinegar to remove the smell, pour it on and let it soak for 15-30min, blot up the bulk of it and then let dry.

You are more than likely going to need to treat the underlying floor. If you are getting rid of the carpet in a couple months, now may be the time to do it and clean things well and then let them throughly dry.

being inattentive is one thing but you should at least house-break the dog

natures miracle works well, i would just apply it over that area. But yeah, house break your dog do that they wait for you to take them out before they let loose.

A gallon of this should work - Nature's Miracle

Works great for dog pee.

Yep. We used it for cat pee when I had cats.

One of my cats freaked out on the way to the vet and took a leak in the back of my Pathfinder. It was like that Seinfeld episode where they couldn't get the smell out of Jerry's car. Nature's Miracle made the car liveable again.

Had the same problem - puppy went on the carpet once, the other dogs started in that same area (territoriality or something?) The carpet was less than a year old & was quite expensive. We ripped it out.

as a pet owner, it is required you own a carpet shampoo machine. either steam or not. even the regular spray/suck hoover types work fine.
much less aggravation when you know you can clean it up easy. under 200 dollars does it. you know very well spraying some stuff on a patch of piss really is not a good way to clean it up.
