Like i wanna chop this down coz its friggin taking over the entrance and its fat as crap.
Its roots also seem to be digging into the foundation. Another alternative is to trim it.

I have no tools...what do i need? Can i rent a chainsaw somewhere? .. just a hacksaw or axe?

Only on AT would people post questions about how to remove an overgrown bush.

Get a saw. Start cutting. Continue cutting until bush is gone. Done.

That tree is more like a shrub, it'll be easy with just a hand saw. Preferably one with a rather thin blade so you can get in easier. (ie: pruning saw) A chainsaw would make quicker work of it, but then you'd probably pay more for the rental than you would for buying a saw.

You might want to check with your town first.

In my town, if the tree diameter is more than 6", you need a permit to chop it down.

They are really strict about it in my town too. I always see them driving around giving people summonses. I've gotten two from those bastages already.

Btw, what are the laws regarding simply relocating the tree via a truck with a tow chain? 😀

I'm glad I didn't live in your town when I cut down 26 trees on my property. No permit, no questions and now 21 less trees in my yard. Nine more and I will be satisfied. Before any tree-hugger starts bashing me, most of them were pines.

You're telling me.

They are real nazis here. If you want to replace say an electrical outlet, you are required to apply for a permit. Wax seal breaks on a toilet, you need to file a permit. It's pretty messed up.

So far I've gotten busted for home repairs that my crooked contractors skipped out on and I've gotten written up for having my grass too high. They sent me a summons to chop it within 1 day on a weekday. It was ridiculous.

I had to remove a tree just like that 3 weeks ago.

No saw.

Just a chain and my wife's Ford Expedition on 4WD low reverse.

Probably don't want to pull this one out. With it being so close to poured cement, It might rip some of the cement out.

Cut it down, then recut as close as you can to the ground, then put some root killer on it and wait a few weeks. It should die and decompose then.

I'd never want to live in a place so obviously run by the trade unions, doggiedog..

Anyway, for most of those rules, they're pretty easy to break... as long as they're out of site. As far as removing a tree against one of those ordinances, just ring it, wait a couple weeks til it's dead and apply to remove the dead tree. Don't apply to remove it while it's alive - if you get turned down, they'll be pretty suspicious when the tree is dead a couple weeks later.

Be sure to cut it as low as you can....

Then take a drill with a wood bit and drill a bunch of holes in the remaining stump.... That will help it rot faster....or get a chisel and hammer and chop it out under ground level.... 😛
