how to check if your AMD XP is locked or unlocked?

before a certain week they were unlocked, where do i go to see if i have locked or unlocked cpus lying around?

There aren't anymore unlocked ones left. Just buy yourself a mobile Barton (all mobile XP's are unlocked), they overclock higher, with less voltage, anyway.;)

you can still find unlocked xp's out there, on anandtech, and i wasn't asking for purchasing purposes, i have 5 cpu's already sitting here and i wanted to check those

well, you can read the week from the codes on the chip, find out what week they started superlocking them (I don't know off the top of my head, google maybe?), or you can pop it in a motherboard and try to change the mult ;)

I believe it was week 39 of 2003 that thay all were hard locked, most make before then should be multi unlocked.

so look at the last line on the cpu should be something like this:
AQXEA0328SPFW the 0328 indicates 2003 week 28 unlocked cpu

Billy, here's a link to the "unlocked Barton Guide". You can look whether they are locked or not. Week 43 and after are locked. Some starting at week 39 were reportedly locked. Essentially, the "locking" was phased in between week 39 to week 43.
