Ok long story short... I dropped something on my video card and a fire started. I have store warranty on it and am getting it changed tomorow... but how can i test if my motherboard and processor are still working?

They power up fine, and look to run OK, but I have no video card to see if its running.

Can anyone give me any advice how to check?

BTW... don't tell me how stupid I am to drop stuf on my video card, I already know :0

You are stupid for dropping stuff on your video card ;) :p

When the machine powers up, check to see if there is any Hard Drive activity (i.e. A sign of Windows booting up).

If so then things should be ok :)

There is no way to tell for sure though, for all you know, in damaging the Video Card you might also have knocked out the AGP slot :(

:'( i just got the board too...

Oh well, I'll find out tomorow if its broke. After the fire, I managed to get it to boot with the video card but then the video display suddenly went off (it was working fine... but video just went off) still have some hope.

Warranty doesn't cover stuff like this i assume?

If you explain to the company that the board suddenly stopped working then it would be covered and you could RMA it.

Unfortunatly you did the damage and i dont recommend lying because you might get caught if they were to "Investigate" what could of caused the problem.

Therefore no, your warrenty does not cover accidental damage...(Although you never know, check yourself to see but I doubt it :()

Hopefully there is nothing wrong with the mobo though.

You'll see tomorrow :)

Make sure you let me know if it was ok :)

Hum yea forgot to mention when i dropped my Cd drive on my video card i saw sparks... I smashed the PS off before it became a fire but it was smoking and i assume it would have been a fire in 2 more seconds. It wasn't really bad though... I'm hoping anyway.

As others have said, I don't think your motherboard would be under warrantee unless they promised you a good return policy. Same with the videocard, luckily its still warranteed.

I don't think you could test it, I don't think your computer would POST w/o a videocard.

Just wait till tomorrow, or borrow a videocard from another computer.

Good point, unless you specifically tell the bios to not halt on errors, I doubt the machine will post w/out a video card.
