How to change the name at the top of my cell phone?

Mine says "ACS Wireless" I don't know the term for the name... the company's name or something. I know there is a code to change it... cuz my friend did it but she has AT&T and that doesn't work for mine... anybody know how to find them?

In mine, you just go to the "Profiles" section...What kind of phone do you have?

It should open up a weird looking options menu - go to NAM1, option to change should be under Alpha Tag.

I changed the Alpha Tag but it doesn't save... it just goes back to ACS WIRELESS... anybody have a clue?

Then change it under NAM2.

NAM 1 has my phone number and I changed it... NAM 2 didnt work either but that wasnt my number anyway... I'm at a loss here. I think it is because I have ACS not ATT... oh well.

To change the Banner on a 5160, hit *3001#12345# then goto NAM 1, then to psid/Rsid Lists, then to P/ Rsid 1, then goto ALpa TAg and change it there. I noticed on some phones from ATT, it doesn't work, but with other Phone services it should. Also with that first code, you can scroll down to Security and find out the Security Code of the Phone. You can also Change the Security Code From there

Jittles - not trying to question your intelligence, but you did hit OK after typing in your new Alpha Tag, right? (And you turned it off and back on again after hitting OK?) And does it keep changing back to ACS Wireless each time you go into NAM1? If so, it's probably hard coded and unchangeable.

found that on a website... that refers to models 51xx and 61xx. So I think that might be it.

Oh yeah, and I did hit OK because if I go to menu - settings - NAM selection I see Jittles *phonenumber*

So the alpha tag shows up there... but not on the banner.

The 5160 is TDMA 1900/800 though, not GSM (unless ACS Wireless somehow adapted the phone to be GSM)

Mine won't change and I've tried all the steps listed here.

I'm using Midwest Wireless which isn't nationwide...just in the Midwest (go figure )

yeah ACS is local here in ALASKA. bleh. Tryin to get my mom to switch me to AT&T but I leave for college at the end of summer so we don't want a one year contract I can't use...

I wonder why this doesn't work... I even found an option for SID controlled Alpha Tag or something to that effect and disabled it but no go.

The Nokia trick worked beautifully on my friend's phone. He was talking about wanting to do it for a long time. I called him as soon as I read this thread and he got it working without a hitch. It reads his name instead of Verizon. How could he get rid of
