I have a laptop with internal resolution of 1024x768 and a external monitor with resolution 1280x1024, Is there any way I can configure the machine to run at 1024x768 when using internal display and raise the resolution to 1280x1024 when it is connected to the external display?

I'm looking for something faster then going into display properties, advanced settings and changing the resolution. Is there a way to do it with 1 or 2 quick key strokes?

The adapter is a ATI rage mobility M1.

I know the pc I use at work has a quick way to do this. Just right click on the desktop and it shows a option for display resolution and you can quickly select from a list of different resolution/color depth/refresh rate without having to go into display properties.

win 98 used to have a quickres utility that puts a icon on the task bar to let you change resolution quickly, I can't seem to find one for win xp.

thanks

I'm pretty sure that's something you can do in the hardware profile settings. Set up two different hardware profiles, one when you are connected to the external monitor and one when your not. Right click "My Computer." Select the Hardware tabe, and then click Hardware Profiles. I've never used it, but it's a suggestion...
