How to change annoying WinXP setting

Somehow I changed a setting on WinXP to where now whenever I mouse over another window, it will make that one active. I remember changing it and thinking it was pretty cool at first but now it is such an inconvenience because I ally do it all the time. If anyone knows how to change it, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

it sounds like you have enabled x-mouse. you can disable x-mouse from powertoys. in fact, i really like the way x-mouse works. if it is not the case, you may want to post this on the operations forum.

I know under properties somewhere there is an option that if the mouse hovers over a window.. it will doubleclick it, or make it active.. check your taskbar and start menu properties... or your mouse properties.

wluk is right, if you have TweakUI you should be able to go there and disable X-Mouse over which will make Windows work like it normally does.

Another question:

How do I make it so the status bar always shows in Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer... I always have to go to View, Status Bar.. I want the status bar to show as default and every time I try to do that, it reverts back to hiding the status bar.

Thanks guys. That was it.

Sorry I can't help you brxndx. I have noticed the same thing though but don't have a solution.

Go into properties for the launch bar and turn on quick launch (I think that was what it was called anyway) and then drag the programs you want in there in to it.

1) on explorer, go to view and check status bar
2) goto tools, select folder options
3) in folder options, click on the view tab
4) click on apply to all folders and then click okay

done

Is there a way I can rearrange my taskbar in orders I want to? like drag and drop it in the order i want? or known any program that will do that? BTW, I hate TaskBar Grouping, so slow!

Also when using remote desktop, is there a way I could connect to my other machine without kicking out the person on that local machine?
