How to capture video/sound with PC games @ high resolution?

What is the best way to capture PC games at high resolution? eg. 1024 or above. Give me system specifications and hardware/software needed.

Would it be better to have 2 computers, one with latest to date graphics card and second computer with real-time capture card? How would this work?

I would also like to capture other video/sound (PS2, XBOX)

Setup sound recorder, and press the Print Screen button 60 times a second... well, maybe that won't work.

i think u'd need a 2nd comp. last i read about this the raw data from 30-60fps of high resolution screen captures is quite insane. best u can do is probably high resolution mpeg 2 on the 2nd ocmp

Use a screen recording program such as Camtasia. Regarding the codec, it is a tough one: I would suggest DivX 5.03, settings 1 pass quality based at 75%-80%, fastest. You will need at least P4 2.4 GHz or AXP 2400+ to avoid frames dropped.

I was thinking alos of using a MJPEG codec (waay faster, can do 30 fps 640x480 on a PII :Q), but I don't know how it scales with the video size.....

I would just get a nice capture card in a second computer and use the s-video out from your card to the capture card and record it like that. Obviously, it won't be crystal clear at a resolution on 1024x768 but it'll work.
