How to bypass a Windows 2000 Log On Screen??

I'm running Win 2k on one of my comps. All of a sudden yesterday a log on screen came up when I booted up. This never happened before. All it asked for was a password then to hit ok. Didn't have a cancel option like usual. If you type in nothing and hit ok just says invalid password. Is there a work around to this? Dell has no clue what the answer is (they suck) and Microsoft wants to charge me a couple hundred $$ for tech support. So AT guys any solutions??

do you always log in as administrator? do you know the administrator password? you can set up your machine to automatically log on as adinistrator. not sure if there is an easy way to do it, i always do it by editing the registry.... you can search for AutoAdminLogon and change its value to 1 instead of 0
 
well, I'm presuming you know the administrator password here.


when it comes up, login as administrator and type your admin password.

then once you get in windows, goto control panel and then user accounts. Look around and there should be an option to bypass the login screen.



Now, if you don't know the admin password...wel, then....you're in deep sh*t. I think the only way is to reformat or reinstall windows....
 
you can actually hack it and change the password... its very complicated and im not explaining how. there is also some softwares out their available which will do it easily for you... but would cost you alot of money.
 
boot to DOS w/ NTFSDOS or something similar [sysinternals.com] and grab your SAM file from C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\config [I think, haven't recovered a 2000 passwd file in a while] copy it to disk, walk it over to another machine. Install l0phtcrack3 [www.atstake.com] load up the SAM file, crack away. NOTE: the evaluation version of LC3 will not allow you to brute force your LanMan hashes.
 
thats the point people i dont know the password because I never set one. This screen has never come up before. And since I don't know the password, I need either a way to get around it without going into Windows.

well someone set the password. Its not possible to install windows without doing that. Which means that its in your Dell manual, or someone down at dell knows. Your gripe should be with Dell, since they isntalled windows. Call them again, ask them and ask to speak to supervisors until you get someone who can answer your question.
 
the first time you boot a dell machine it goes through a process where you set an admin password.

you need to remeber the first time you turned the machine on, or talk to the first person that did...
 
This happened to me once after playing around with settings in the services section and rebooting.. 😱 I ended up reformatting but Im sure peeps here can help you get out of the predicament.
