So I have a friend/neighbor that I'm determined to share my internet with. There are two properties between us, and so far those two people have politely declined my request to run a wire through their back yards (but I'll bury it!!!).

What would be the best way to transmit wifi that distance? I've seen proprietary wifi antennaes that are good at pulling in a connection to one computer, but I want my neighbor to be able to use wifi with his phone etc just as you normally would.

I'm thinking transmitting a strong signal will work better than trying to pull in a weak signal. So maybe finding a used commercial wifi transmitter will they use at big corporations or something might be best. I have no idea what I'm looking for though.

This is more about having fun and sticking it to Comcast, so if your practical advice is not to do it - you're no fun.

Why are people, including a moderator, helping the OP to "share internet"?

When I asked something similar a year or two ago, my thread was locked, with much derision from the pros, and a moderator left a message in the post about not doing illegal things.

Is this a change in policy?

You shouldn't share internet with anyone except your family in the same house where you have total control.

You will never know whether your best friend will visit some websites that's illegal, either file sharing or children porn, or perform some hacking activities. You will be charged by the court & ISP if these things happen.

Two thoughts:

1. Are you (and the other naysayers) on an ISP payroll? If not, you should at least at request a commission from them for all your hard work on their behalf.

2. Someone could hack my internet even if I were not sharing it and do something illegal. The defense is the same either way and even in our completely dysfunctional criminal justice system, I will probably be found not guilty of doing something there is no evidence I did.

Of course I'm not on ISP payroll. I'm just a Charter's regular customer.

Since you mentioned Comcast, here is it's policy.
http://www.xfinity.com/wifi/comcastwifiAUP.html

Someone can absolutely hack you, but as long as you secure the WiFi enough, no one will be able to hack.

I'm just saying what could happen, not what definitely will happen.

You can trust your best friend all you want.

Reading the thread and the OP "thoughts" made me aware that I concentrated too much on the Wireless Bridging aspect and Not the totality of the Thread.

At this point the Thread lost its value and it closed.
