I was installing new graphics drivers and the system hung while installing them. Had to reboot it, It now will not load windows.

I need to get into safe mode but hitting f8 or f9 during boot do not accomplish anything.

What is the key to hit during boot to get into safe mode?

Everything I've googled has only given me instructions on how to get there from inside the os which obviously is of no use to most people who need safe mode and of no use to me.

Thanks guys

It's still F8 but the the boot process is so fast now that you will never manage to press it fast enough...
Let it pass the uefi screen and switch off power that will trigger the boot manager to display the safemode dialog on the next boot up.

only other windows pc in the house in win7, rest are linux\bsd.

Im attempting to make a win10 install USB stick with the microsoft tool right now but it does not detect any of my USB flash drives, i have 4 of them all plugged into my win7 box right now, windows sees them all and they all work fine. But the damn MS tool refuses to see any of them to make a USB installation drive......

Thanks jack!

i got it to work by writing the windows 10 iso to a bootable usb stick(with a third party app as the microsoft utility is useless), from there i was able to boot and edit the advanced boot options and finally boot into safe mode and solve my driver problems.

now im setting it up like in the link you provided!
