Basically like the title says. I formatted and installed WinXp on an ide drive I had laying around. I just hooked it up directly to the motherboard to get it that far. Once I put it in the enclosure it will boot up until the Windows splash screen and then it will just restart. Any ideas?

from what I know, windows doesn't support booting from an external drive.

Hmmm. Well, if Linux supported 3DMark or the games I play, I might give it a try. It seems to fit my needs better than Windows except for that fact. I've found a few articles that say booting from an external USB device is possible. I just need to see if my particular enclosure will work.

The BIOS has to support booting from USB or FW for that to work. And I suppose it would take some serious hacking to make Windwoes happy with it...
