When using headphones on my laptop, the sound is decent, but not loud enough to watch a movie on an airplane with the extra noise, even with the volume turned all the way up. Is there any kind of battery powered external "booster" that I can plug into the headphone jack on my laptop that will increase the volume in my headphones?

It wouldn't be very portable, but you could get a Soundblaster Extigy.

You sure that you have the volume all the way up in the volume control in windows, on the media player, and on the laptop? I have never had a laptop (Well I've only had two) that had a problem with headphone audio. I'm pretty sure they do make a small amp for headphones. I'd check radio shack for it since they normally have those types of gadgets.
