In an IS Administrator at work, but I need to block a couple NT workstations from connecting to napster. I don't want to complete block it off since I occasionally use it. Is there any way to block NT workstation port napster uses w/o additonal software?

**I know someone going to hate me for this, but they take alot of bandwidth

MY roomate, i think will know how to do this, i'll get back to this thread as soon as i get the info from him. I know he's currently throttling the whole campus and napster to about 2k a sec. SO i'll see what i can get from him

All right, i'd first like to say that there is probally someone over in the networking forum that could answer this MUCH better than i ever could. That and don't ask me how, i am far from being an expert. But as far as i know the only way to get rid of napster slowing a network is

A. Throttle it down to a Really, Really low speed.
B. Get you hands on something that does layer 3 flitering and block the napster "list" server
C. Go down to the DNS server at your place and route all traffic going to napster and its servers to a "another web site"
As in filtering by comp, i have no clue

Anywho, personal i have no problems with napster use at home, and if you did it to me, I be pretty pissed, BUT i do fully understand the bandwidth problem that it can cause. That software just EATS network time. And if your company pays for its bandwith by meg, then your probally hurting. But it is awfully wrong just for you to have the privalageat your place of employment and not anyone else.

If you're company is behind a Firewall AND you have access to that Firewall. Then assign a specific port that can access Napster and don't let anyone but people want know what it is.
