How to begin connecting TV and PC

I have looked through quite a few posts on the subject of recording TV to PC and have decided that to try and decipher it on my own would be an idiotic move a could prove to be a costly mistake. So here is my "dumb" newbie question:

I have digital cable and would like to be able to record from it to my PC. Basically, where do I start? I'm looking for Video Recording 101 here folks! 🙂

I'll begin by giving some info about my computer-
HP Pavilion f1503
Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2
Pentium 4 CPU 2.80GHz
2.80GHZ, 504 MB of RAM

As for other info you may need just let me know and I'll see what I can do about providing it. I appreciate your patience with me!

You just need a capture card or a videocard with video-in and compatable software. I use an ATI eHome Wonder and Windows Media Center, but there are lots of options for you to pick from.

first you begin by putting the lotion in the basket.

then you check out videohelp.com, this section in particular.

(seriously, videohelp.com has got to be the #1 or 2 site for this kinda thing; LOTS of info 🙂 )
