how to assign burner rights in XP?

How can I assign the right to burn to an individual or a group other then administrator? I have been through the help and online resources with no success.

Help appreciated!

Yes I am...version 5.5.7.2. Just purchased a Liteon 40x drive and the software came bundled with it.

edit
upgraded to the lastest version 5.5.7.8

Saw no difference between this and the previous version when burning as administrator. Still have the issue of not being able to burn under the other accounts

You need to assign CD-rom local access in the security policy, I remember a thread here not long ago about this and it worked for me. I don't have more info right now, but you might try searching for that topic.

I have looled under security settings but did not find anything I thought was appropriate.

did a search using burner, local access, rights, etc with no luck

anybody!!!!

I don't know how Nero works, so this is a guess.

If Nero dynamically loads a device driver to support CD writing (which I suspect it may), then regular users can't burn because users are not permitted to load device drivers.

You should address this question to the application vendor, as this is not an operating system issue.

Just to clarify here is the dialog box I get when I try to launch Nero:

Under WindowsNT4/2000 burn rights are required by Nero to access cd-recorders and cd-rom/dvd-rom drives.
Please ask your system administrator for a permission to use Nero.

Play nice manly 😉 As stated above I did a search but found nothing. That said thanks for the link! Solved the problem. I had gone down the policy list looking at items that only had the administrator listed. Would never have guessed it was a switch labeled Restrict CD-ROM Access to locally logged-on user only. And why wouldn't the backup group have the ability to use a burner.

Now explain to me the logic where you need a toggle like this 😕

Thanks again for everyone's help.
