How to allow simultaneous usage of laptop and desktop when remotely connected?

Whenever I login to my desktop from my laptop in the same network, my desktop goes to the log-in screen rather than continuously running while the laptop is running.

How can I get around it?

It's a security measure. The assumption is that if you're in the box remotely you wouldn't want someone sitting there watching your every move on the remote system. I don't know of a way except what hopejr said...
