I need to make some CDs in Divx format for a Stand Alone DVD player that supports DivX format. The player also support subtitles (a must for me), but for some reason they look really small on my 4/3 TV. Most of my videos are in 16/9 or something bigger than 1.33 between width and height. I want to make a 4/3 format and add subtitles embedded in video (I use VirtualDub - that's the only one I know to use; it displays larger subtitles). One lame solution is to cut left and right parts of the video until it looks in a 4/3 format, but that's a serious loss of video.
My question is: how to add top and bottom black bars in the video (DivX or Xvid) to make it a 4/3 format?
Or how to add subtitles in a Divx/Xvid video and still look visible?
