how to activate animated smileys on webpages?

Hi

after all this time i looked at many of my fave web pages [inc this one!] on another oc and was astonished to notice that the smileys etc were animated but are static whgen viewed on my pc [winxp sp1a]; i have flash player installed so what do i need to do to activate this feature?

Some of those do it but only for a short time. I don't think flash has anything to do with it as they are probably .gif files. Do you have all the updates installed?

yes i have all updates installed; i wonder if it anything to do with any of the security settings in XP/IE and if so which?

In Internet Explorer, check out Tools | Internet settings... -> advanced settings. You're looking for an option that says "Play animation" or something to that effect. It's disabled by default if you're using Windows 2003.

"play animation in web pages" is enabled as is all the other multimedia stuff
