How tight should I be screwing in the PAL8045?

The title says it all... I'm kinda afraid of crushing the poor little CPU. Can anybody give some advice?

It's spring loaded... Just screw it enough so it is tensioned. The HSF should not be sliding around or wobbling when the correct amount of pressure is applied. Doesn the PAL8045 come with instructions? I'm sure thats a crucial part of the installation ;)

the nice part about it is once you tighten the screws in (don't keep turning after its tight).. then it's tight enough...

The screws should bottom out in the motherboard standoffs, so don't muscle it once they stop turning easily. Its in step 4 of the instructions.

I ended up installing this four different times this past weekend (don't ask) and the best way IMO is to hold the nylon nuts with plyers and tighten the screws until the standoff spins. You can't get any tighter than that and it cools just fine.

yep, I agree with Dunbar. You can't "crush" the cpu as long as you alternate which screw you tighten per the instructions and you give it a only a few turns each time. The way the stand-offs are designed, they will spin once they bottom-out, so they aren't putting any more pressure on the cpu. The only thing you might want to try is adding another washer per the instructions for AXP's if you don't think the contact is tight enough. I didn't bother, as I was getting great temps on my AXP w/out the need for the extra washers.
