from my experience with the iphone, the apple format files along with their hardware and software are heavily optimized for battery life. and that's apple's/SJ's fetishes. battery life and how thin it is. along with ease of use which is a double edged sword. iOS is awesome for it's simplicity but after a while you get sick of moving from app to app quickly. like if you are always getting texts and using another app at the same time

The issue is that these devices- even the dual core Xoom- are still magnitudes slower than your average Core2Duo. On web pages with tons of javascript they simply don't have the CPU needed to keep up with the browsing experience on a modern computer until we have quad-core tablets. Therefore right now whatever little extra you can get helps, at least until we hit the point years from now where tablets are as

Depends on what kind of browsing experience you are talking about. Navigating around, zooming, panning, etc, are unrelated to Javascript performance. Case in point, try an iPad for real and see for yourself. If you have an iPhone that is higher than 3GS, you'd know what I'm talking about, too.

Apple does GPU acceleration a lot better than you'd imagine.

Except that Apple stuffs are usually significantly faster in 12 months as of recently. It's futile to run with an overclock when you know for sure you'll be holding a version twice as fast next year.

I am a little skeptical on this iPad 2. Apple has the right stuff but i don't think this new tab will be a revolution as the 1st one was

My expectation is more of the same but slightly faster. But Apple got so much right with the first one that it's a good thing.

Apple is going to sell these like hotcakes. I was an hour late this morning getting up and ordering and the shipping time was already at 3-5 days. I even ordered the fancy magnet cover, and I'm usually not big on covers or add ons.

While Motorola/Samsung are wondering how to sell their overpriced tablets I can't get an iPad v2 for the next 2-3 weeks.

I am 100% talking about actually loading the pages. My mediaserver has a few web-based DHTML/Javascript heavy interfaces that load a little slow (compared to my dual core laptop) even on a iPhone 4. Once I can get a tablet to match that I don't really need any more power, but until that point a real computer wins the day. Maybe the iPad 2 is that tablet, we will see next week.

Try to update the iPhone 4 to iOS 4.3. 2x Javascript performance improvement.

Apple has proven quite a few times that they are more than capable of making software updates count more than overclocking.
