It's a fucking joke. A marketing gimick by Forbes.

I wish I could create an unprofitable company and be worth $6b. The Forbes 400 has lost their credibility.

he owns facebook you dumbass

someone close this stupid threrd

He owns less than a quarter of Facebook (he's diluted his ownership so many times just to pay the server bills it's crazy) and the company, as of last I heard, extremely unprofitable.

How is a losing business worth tens of billions?

Yeah but that's >$10 per person they would have needed in revenue from mostly adds, though I guess I do know some people that have managed to spend ~$1000 on facebook games. So how much does facebook get as a cut from what the games on it make?

Well that is until facebook sells all of its data or uses its data to set up a huge market research company. :p

Facebook had a net profit in 2009. Not sure where you are getting your numbers.

You don't think FB already sells user data on the down low? There's needs to be a federal investigation in FB. Mark's an asshole who has spoken out about how he basically think's FB users are stupid. How anyone could belong to a site where the CEO thinks so lowly of you and would sell your personal data in a heartbeat is beyond me.

For violating what law? The law that prohibits people from voluntarily putting their life story on servers run by private company? If Facebook had been dumb enough to sell user data, they would have done so a long time ago. They haven't and, now, there is waaay too much to lose to risk raising short-term funds that would ultimately destroy the company.

Now,what is funny is that you cannot block Mark Zuckerburg on Facebook. I'm sure he has some crazy hot girl-stalking algorithms in his office.

Nothing FB has done has been illegal. Shady, yeah, illegal. Nope.

Considering Zynga is raking in the dough thanks to Facebook, Im sure Facebook sees a cut somewhere.

FB Ads have taken off in the past year for affiliate marketers, but it costs a massive amount of money to support those servers.

Facebook used to be all about affiliate marketers, but ever since mid '09, when marketers were cloaking to banned products, and with rising complaints from users about their advertisements, they've really tried to close the door on them. They've pulled most of their reps from affiliate marketers and make getting ads approved a giant hassle.

I can only think that they're now making enough money from "real" advertisers that they have no use for the affiliate world anymore.

Revenue is not profit. When they go public, I'd like to see how they're staying profitable with all the infrastructure they have to support.

Read the article. They are profitable.

Servers aren't cheap, this is true. But IF FB has a team/group dedicated to it, they should be able to make it much more affordable then you'd think.

The company valuation sounds like bullshit to me. I'd like to review some of their statements and see whats going on under the hood.
