How the hell do you link Xboxes?

I always thought you had to just hook up one ethernet cable for 2 boxes. Guess taht doesn't work. Oh and the game I'm trying to play is Halo. Tried reading the instruction manual, all it has in there is the Xbox Live! Any suggestions? Played around in the settings, again all there is is XB LIve. Any help would be appreciated.

you need to use a crossover cable if you're not using a switch. if you're using a switch, you'll need two standard lan cables.

Use a cross-over cable if hooking two Xboxes together directly. Otherwise, use a hub with regular cables.

Patch != Crossover
Get a new cable or a switch.

yup, a patch is the "standard" cable that has the little wires in the "regular" order. a crossover cable is different, in that it switches two of the little wires around, and does away with the need for a switch/hub. if you have a switch/hub, just find another regular patch cable, plug both boxes into the switch, and you're good to go. if you don't have a switch/hub, go out & buy a crossover cable ($10 ish probably)

hey! I have that guide, didnt' know it was for crossovers though lol. Anyways can I use a router like a normal computer? Or does it "HAVE" to be a hub?
