How the hell do you fix coiling on wires!!!!!

This post is mainly a rant, I'm damn tired of having my headphone wire all coiled up like some damn twisting old phone. Its odd, but I remember having it normal before the ugly coil and some how it got fixed. Its pretty long, so i try and stretch it but it just coils back up, ITS VERY ANNOYING!!!

Hang it by the headphone jack and let it spin

Try running your fingers down the wire while applying pressure. This usually does the trick.
