i know theres a fruity commad for this because apple decided to leave out the easy prntscrn button for some reason

The only reason a PC has a "print screen" button in the first place is because it's a ridiculously old holdover from when the button would actually send the screen to a printer, in DOS.

MacOS, and the whole platform, isn't quite so backwards-compatability obsessed.

Another option would be to load preview and use the capture function.

One thing about Macs that I like is that you can select the area you want captured, unlike Windows, where you have to go into paint, paste it, and edit it.

Alt+PrintScrn will capture only the current window selected.
