- I live in Canada and I could go without A/C. A/C is nice to have for about 2 weeks in summer, but for the additional cost, I can live without it.

- Power windows are nice but if I'm on a tight budget, I'd rather roll them down by hand and save a few bucks.

- FM/Cassette are useless, I'd rather not have anything and buy my own after-market head unit rather than pay the upgrade to a craptastic stock CD player.

It just seems like one of those things that should just be STANDARD no matter what. At least IMHO, all vehicles sold in the states should at LEAST come standard with:

A/C
Power Windows/Locks
FM/Cassette

I'm from San Diego and it gets to be over 100 at least a few times a year. I never use AC and I'd rather not spend the $300 to have it standard.
My teacher doesn't like power windows and prefer's the handle.
My boss thinks Cassesttes are stupid and shouldn't be in cars.

Not everyone is like you.
It's not a thing about everyone being like me. Once you get to a certain price point, YOU DO get ALL of those features standard (usually $20,000) on just about ANY vehicle.

Maybe it's just something that I've taken for granted over the years.

Well obviously not everyone needs or even wants those options, especially for all the extra $
I win!

Shit......if we didn't have AC here in FL we all would be dead. You need AC here all of the seasons of the year, even Winter.

$300 here, $500 there, $400 Package A deluxe, that's why $20,000 vehicles cost more than $13,000 ones. Isn't that kind of obvious?

Lot of people think an automatic transmission should be standard. That 50+% of the population that can't drive a stick to start with. So for their preference shouldn't your car have to have an automatic? Others would say that 2.0L 4cyl engine is too small. So all cars should come with V-6 standard. Then someone else would say the engine is too big....see how much easier it is to pick the options you want rather than having them dictated to you buy others?

One of my vehicles has AC, it quit working some years ago. Other never did have it. I almost never used it when it did work. At home I run the AC, but I prefer to just have a vent open in the car. Also prefer manual windows and manual locks, less to break, and just like a handle instead of a button when adjusting the window. Especially after fighting with that 'auto window drop' feature where if you just tap the button to crack the window open it goes all the way down, then you put it nearly all the way back up, don't ever get it just where you want it and end up driving into a tree in while fighting with it.

Well I live in Maine, and love my ac. Great in the summer, and it really helps to de-fog the windows. I never cared for the noise of having the windows open.

Yeah, I'd like to see you rolling down the window on your $35,000 Lexus or Infiniti. Yeah right;)

And I don't know about you, but I'd rather not have to get out the damn car to roll down the windows in the back seat when I'm driving, or have to lean over to roll down the window.

i think there's a fairly large consumer gruop who just want no-frills cars. And cars such as the Civic, Mazda3, etc.. are all economy cars. "economy".

Whats ludicrous is whats going on with Mercedes in their luxury cars. You gotta pay extra for a cd-changer and HID lights on a frigging $38kUSD M-B C320!!!!

On a $48kUSD E320, you have to pay extra for HIDs and a CD-changer as well!!!

Thats just wrong.

For a person that buys a no-frills "economy" car w/o A/C and lives in Florida with no power windows or A/C in 100 degree weather...he's a much braver person than us all :)

not really. When I was in Africa (Nigeria), we had cars that didn't have A/C or power windows/locks. We survived. An inconviencne, yes, but not something serious.

Also up in here in Toronto, it gets QUITE hot in the summer. Around 90-ish F and 32-35C. We used to have a Corolla, no power locks or windows or A/C. I surived. The car was silver too..so when you were inside, its like an oven.

I wish I could buy truck with vinyl floor, leather seats, no radio, power windows but not locks because my Ford accuators costed $250 plus broken knukles to replace. I like to hose out the interior so a drain plug would be nice too... Are you buying?:p

That is true.

But my point still stands that there are a lot of people who don't care for it.

Speaking of Sunbirds, my friend had one. Before going into Drive, he had to put it in Reverse..move a bit AND then put it in Drive in order to move forward. Very annoying.

Now lets get back to bashing Mercedes for not offering HIDs on a $48k USD car. :p

Check out Ford's Commercial Truck division. I believe they offer all of the above on F-250+, almost definitely on F-350+, and I KNOW they do on F-450+ (But then it's Bring your own body)

On the F-350 commercial configurator, they have like 5 pages of options. You have to talk to the fleet department at a dealership to get them to acknowledge the existance of most of this stuff. You can even work off one of the special consumer packages.

who died and made you hitler of car options?

I don't terribly care for all those toys in a car. I had a 3G accord which although it did have A/C, I almost never used it because it made the car noticeably slower. I just cracked the window and drove faster instead. :D This is in the inland socal, where 100+ summers are the norm. You just wear shorts and burn it out, it's not that big a deal.

My last car, a 2000 corolla, didn't have all those power toys and I liked the car just fine. I see it as factory weight reduction. :D Plus an annoying thing about power windows is well, the car has to have power before you can use it. The corolla I don't have to have keys in the ignition to roll up or crack down the windows.

My 2003 accord has all those toys you named, and on top of that remote control power everything, but it's not really that big a deal to me. It impresses girls more than it impresses me. Aside from the impressing other people more, I'd rather just have kept the corolla.

Mitsu announced they're going to sell that super stripped version of the lancer evo. No power nothing, no sunroof, no a/c, no stereo, no wing, no sound insulation and I'm seriously thinking about buying one. If they make the price ~24-25kish, I just might get one. I'll take the difference and use it towards a down on a condo in Palos Verdes or something instead, where I'll never need A/C. :D

yah I saw that about that Mazda 3.. basically you better just make it a $15,000 car before it's even worth lookin at
