How the heck do you get Pinnicle System's PCTV card to work in XP?

XP or NT, which is it?

I don't mean to be a smart-@ss, but have you downloaded and install their drivers? Try E-mailing or calling their tech support if you still can't get it to work... Try google.com for drivers, too..

I had no luck. I pulled the card out and gave up.

I think pctv you can get for free after rebate, which is what I got for mine.. I dont think you can get the ati for free yet..

Their driver sucks (pinnicle), my friend had to get the driver off their german site... he got it to work where I give up on mine but it'll work with the german drivers..

ATI 8500DV works great under XP!

Hmmm... good call, forcesho.

I found these drivers at the German site that look promising:
drivers

I haven't tried them yet, but if I have time tonight, I'll try putting in my PCTV card in and seeing if I get anything. I remember buying this card for $15 at Fry's Electronics back in 1996, and I used it a lot for a long time. Once I got a digital camera, I stopped needing it as much and I don't particularly miss it. But it'd be nice to have it working again.

I built a new box for my dad with XP as the OS. He wanted to use his PCTV card but I went looking for drivers and found only this on :the Pinnicle website: (best as I can remember) "PCTV is a consumer oriented product and Windows NT (NT/2000/XP) is a professional level operating system so we do not support it. You have to use a ....(don't remember-some other Pinnicle product)" So, SOL I guess...

Anyone else have an annoying hum after install?...

Bought this card last night and installed in on Win2K fine. Except!- I get an annoying hummmm all the time after installalling this card. The hum comes through my speakers it gets worse when I move windows and open apps. It doesn't seem to matter if the Pinnacle software is open or closed or weither I have the external audio "jumper" installed or not- it just hums all the time! Very annoying! Anyone else having this happen? Any advice would be appreciated.

I know this really isn't helpful, but I installed PCTV Pro using the installation CD in XP without a problem.

As said, this will be very likely be the result of the wire connecting the sound card to the TV card picking up noise. If it's real bad there might be a problem with either the computer's or the antenna cable's earth.

Double click on the speaker icon in system tray and disable the input you used on the souncard (for me it's 'aux', for example).

As for the PCTV being difficult to install, I'm pretty sure it's "only" a driver issue. AFAIK this is just another card based on the Bt848, just like the now ancient orginal Happauge WinTV PCIs, which work just fine with XP.

Grrr. IMO that translates as: "We're sorry, you've had this card long enough now and we can't be bothered to write new drivers for it. Buy some of our new stuff instead."

IMO, the link to the german driver looks good. It's a bit big with 25 MBytes, but a look in the German forum confirms that it's working.
