How the heck do you figure out your GPA?

I know that each class is worth an amount of credits times each grade letter which represents a number divided by something. What is it? The amount of credits? The amount of classes?

a=4 points
b=3 points
c=2 points
d=1 point

(these are unweighted)

you find out how many points you have and divided by the number of classes.

For me, this trimester i had 5 a's, and 2 b's. so 5*4=20, 3*2=6 26/7= 3.71 GPA

ok here goes: A's are worth 4 points, B's 3 points, C's 2 points and D's 1 point. Now take what you got and add it together, then divide that number by the number of classes you have.
Example:
Class1: B
Class2: C
Class3: A
Class4: D
TOTAL: 10 points/4 classes=2.5GPA

But if they are weighted, you divide not by the number of classes but the course value, correct?
