Goodwill/Salvation army in my area will pick up a mattress for free and write you a receipt for tax purposes provided the mattress is stain free and no broken springs

I've put a mattress, box spring, a couch, and a bunch of other large crap out to the curb on trash day (shortly before moving) without calling anyone and it was gone when I got home from work. I suspect that trash pickers might have taken care of some of it, but no way did they take a mattress & box spring.

Give it to a homeless person. They take anything.
