Why is it all the HOA crap I see comes out of Florida. Do old people have nothing to do but pray for death and measure the length of your lawn?

Awesome. The flag thing might come back to bite everyone in the ass...but then hopefully that'll just motivate him to get elected to the board and start making radical changes.

Texas is actually one of the worst for HoAs. Some state senator runs the main HOA in the state so he has passed quite a few pro-hoa laws in TX.

Pretty sad that the HOA is going to have to change its rules to be even more specific just because of one douchebag who can't get along.
The sign and the flag are ugly and would reduce property values in the neighborhood.

People generally don't realize that small amounts of visual pollution can significantly shift human perception.

Several years back the local towns in my area changed the zoning laws for businesses, limiting signage height, lighting, and even materials. And things are so much more picturesque now. The path urbanization has taken is not pretty -- companies have been allowed to rape the visual field to pull attention to themselves. Correcting that allows for a much more peaceful living environment.

Perhaps the HOA will do the sensible thing and all sports flags during the playoffs only?

Even better they should regulate the size and location of such signs and allow them to displayed from opening day to a couple weeks after the championship is determined.

I don't think a single "Go RedSox" flag is going to hurt the price of my house.

Your second picture isn't of an area with an overzealous HOA either. Clearly, there are leaves on that lawn that have been there for 24 hours.

Yeah, like a single lawn sign is really going kill your property values. Mindless conformity FTL. Can't believe there's still people that want to live in Stepford.

stupid busy bodies

Stay at home moms and empty nester wives with absolutely nothing better to do. My parents HOA is exactly like that, one bitch that walks around, making sure that everyone's deck stain matches.

Overzealousness in enforcement is usually a response to douchebags being self-centered and out of control. The percentage of adults who behave like spoiled children is remarkable, and you cannot give them leash because they are not geared for civic responsibility - they are geared for exploiting any opening that society doesn't explicitly close. They are in a permanent state of teenaged rebellion and will drop any burden that they possibly can into their "parents'" lap.

There is no need to nanny a person who takes care of themselves and their surroundings.

A view between a broken down city and a private church lawn, but what stands out to this is... THE SIGNS ON THE POLE!

Get your eyes checked.

I can understand the HOA lawn laws. My boss at my last job lived in a very nice neighborhood, until some family moved in and dumped a ton of shit in their yard (rusted trucks, old furniture, etc). Apparently, that caused the value of the everybody's house to immediately go down by 10%.

However, a sign is taking that too far.

Fuck you, you stupid bag of dicks. HOAs should be completely outlawed. NOBODY should have the right to dictate what color your house is NOR should they be allowed to fine you for a sign or a flag, and unless they're paying your mortgage, they have no right to put a lien on your house.

Fucking HOA apologists.

Do you not realize that it is the keeping up of things that prevents them from breaking down? This shit doesn't maintain itself, ya' know.
The people in my area do not sit and wait for "du gubberment" to come wipe our asses for us. We do on our own what we can.

I happen to have a garage full of signs like those I posted that I've ripped off telephone poles. And I'm not the only one around here that does it.
If a storm drops debris in the road I don't just drive around it -- I stop and pull it to the side.
"Pretty" doesn't happen by magic. I live in a nice area and I am willing to maintain it.

"Broken down" happens in areas where people just don't care anymore. They dump trash instead of picking it up. They spray graffiti instead of painting over it.
Keeping things up does not take money -- it only takes effort, the only cost of which is calories, which are ridiculously cheap.
And the man in the OP should burn the 20 calories it takes to remove that sign and flag rather than spending them on being an ass.

Typical "me me me" conservative moron.
The world is bigger than just you. People have an effect on others and a civic duty to manage that effect.

Your problem is, no matter how many signs you rip off of utility poles, you still have the utility poles. Move into a real neighborhood with underground utilities.
Nice comparison btw. Showing a picture of a gas station with power/telco lines everywhere, an ugly school bus, and the municipal landscaping gone to crap.
