Post your silly boss stories
Don't post here if you'll get fired.

My boss is so stupid.... This guy owns a consulting firm that designs and builds retail networks, but he's having a hard time adjusting to Windows from DOS. He called me into his office to ask me why there was disk activity when he wasn't actively using the computer. I pointed out to him that in addition to being on the network and having shared folders there are probably a lot of things running in the background. He said "No there aren't nothing should be running in the background." I said hit CTRL+ALT+DEL which he did. This is a guy who installs every single thing he gets in the mail or finds on the internet so there were about 25 things running. I said, "see all that stuff is running on your computer and could be accessing the disk" He said "No it's not. Nothing is running in the background." I said, "Right boss, my suggestion is get a faster machine with a quieter disk" When I left him he was randomly end tasking stuff to see if it stopped the disk access. I imagine he'll be getting a new machine soon......

"So where can I find drivers for the new power supply that you're putting in my machine?"

djheater: That's classic!

All of the people I work with are very smart (bosses included) so the best I can do here is say that every once in a while someone on the staff opens a stupid Outlook virus. You'd think people that smart wouldn't do that..

My boss is dumb... he expects me to be able to diagnose the problem, do basic troubleshooting like TURNING ON THE COMPUTER, power cycle things, repush cable modems, reprovision cable modems in our database from scratch, totally rebuild customers accounts, and explain everything that I'm doing -all within 11 minutes. :)

yay my boss is a hoser!

My boss is actually quite intelligent, but has horrible communication skills, and is quite odd. For example, she had never heard of pinball until just a few weeks ago.
Also, she hired someone to do marketing, but gave him no budget, so all he can do is work on the website, and she reviews everything before he can put it up on the site. She's an engineer, so everything ends up being worded really funny.

My boss is not only stupid but he's lazy as well. When he doesn't come into work we all celebrate about being directionless and leaderless! More decisions get made and more work gets accomplished when he isn't around...but that's okay because his boss sees that more progress is made when he isn't around. We are hoping that he won't be around at all soon.

What can I say? Sometimes people are in the right place at the right time and get positions of management from seniority reasons rather than actually ability. There's so many managers in the corporate world that need to be canned and not enough people to evaluate them. I worked for a company that spent thousands of dollars on laptops and the majority of the idiots they hired don't use them for work or even know how...they just play solitare and eat up company dollars. I blame the lack of training on upper management for not paying attention to their whole corporate tree.

Government is a COMPLETELY different story. ;)

My boss is actually pretty smart and wise enough to know what he doesn't know. We worked together at my old company (MicroCase) until it was sold to Wadsworth Publishing a couple of years ago, then he talked me into joining his new e-learning startup (Respondus). We're still in business so he must be doing something right :)

But to add a stupid boss story, I helped him get one of two client laptops connected to a server laptop to take to a trade show.

I get an intercom call a little later:
"The second client laptop can't find the server!"
"Did you put in the server IP address like on the first client?"
( dead silence )
"oh yeah."

...which is a lot funnier in person :) but he was pretty sheepish about forgetting the 1-step client setup in less than 5 minutes.

I work as a powerlineman for an electric utility. I'm on the construction crew, with 9 other guys. Our construction foreman, who is essentially in charge of all of our lives, is a 6th grade drop out who cant speak english. And has the mental capacity of a 12 year old.

Luckily, no one has died there since he's been foreman. The only reason he is foreman, is he's been there 30 years and was the only one with seniority when the old foreman quit.

I heard he was a low paying tyrant who made you work long hours without overtime or company benefits. ;)

Sir Fredrick,

Actually, you're right. He was logged in earlier so I had to be careful what I said.

Being in the military, I have many bosses.

My immediate boss is okay. Not a huge backbone, but he's decent. My weekday ultimate boss is a great! He'll back me up all of the time and has great personnel mgmt skills. Now my weekend boss is worthless and an idiot. Some sort of Programing Mgr in his civilian life and has no clue of what I do or what I should be doing. I get handed projects that I have no business doing or is way below my experience and level of expertise.

So stupid he renigged on a promise to me.
He knew I would quit.
This probably cost him a million dollars personally.
But, it changed my life for the better.

My boss is cool! Even though I knew nothing about the Cisco IOS he gave me the login for our switches and router so I can play around in there to learn it... I accidentaly made a booboo on someones VLAN and the next day I found a big book about VLAN's on my desk :). He is not an ignorant boob when it comes to PCs and does not act like he knows the answers when he doesn't. MY only beef with him is that he makes unrealistic deadlines, but don't they all? ;)

My boss talks like a motivational speaker. Every response, whether he is cussing or just talking, comes out positive and ends with an exclamation point. Like "Oh sh&t, I'm getting fired because I am a complete moron- swell!" Its crazy!
My other boss sounds like the boss from Office Space, every thing he says is "yeah, okay, alright, etc".
