In fact it's what America's about and we sacrifice some security trying to live up to the High Standards that we have set for ourselves to insure that we are to remain a great country. The Irony is that the stupidity on his part that brought him so much grief (and obviously the pity of every button pushing Weenky on this site) is due to the fact that he was profiled as a hacker and suffered the consequences for it even if he was just being stupid and ignorant.

So, um .. how does saying that equate to your original coment of, "Stupid to me is installing a program on University Computers for the sake of showing off to other geeks without the schools permission and getting busted and prosecuted for it. "

they are not even close.
According to you. I'm sure the whole PNG Forum is pissed at me now because I insulted their mascot. If he's going to insult us who believe that every American should be treated the same despite their Nationality or ethnic make up then he's going to have to deal with it when we respond in kind.

1) The majority of computer crime is comitted by

a) Grimace

b) Doug ala "Do it Doug"

c) Wordsworth

d) white males

the point of this, is that i dont see why we still allow white males access to computers, they cause all the problems

You insult damn near everybody, so you think your insulting dmcowen is anything special? Yea, right. Obviously you're ignorant of the details of the case, or you work for the government of Georgia. And since you can't come up with anything intelligent to insult me with, you switch arguments back to the middle east thing. This style of argumentation and debate is blatantly lacking in any form of logic, but apparently it's enough to convince the ignorant masses of ATOT.

some of them may be, but I hope most of them know better than to judge a person by comments made on a BBS. I asked that question because the first responce you gave came across as a bash to Dave. The comment may be deserved but without anything to back it up you look like an ass. Not that you care what anyone here thinks.

I was just curious as to what linked the 2 statements.

I suggest that you add to your list who bombed the Oklahoma City building, shot innocent people in the Columbine high school, then there is always Ted Bundy or the woman in Florida who killed her tricks.

Add the KKK and American Nazis to your list too.

Terrorist Sympathizer?

No. This thread is an effort to justify persecuting Muslim males. If we do that then we should keep an eye on white guys too because they have been the cause of a lot of terror in the US.

I think Red's point was quite clear and right on target. You really go sliding down the slippery slope towards eroding the rights we all enjoy when you start making laws/policy based on this kind of profiling.

seems clear to me, he's calling our judicial/civil rights stupid= Red's calling him stupid/ignorant for using others property w/o consent for his gain/pleasure. breaking law & allowing an illegal activity, what a combo

Actually, IIRC, he had his bosses consent. just not high enough. I must admit I am not as familiar with the case as I should be.

if that were true, then why didn't the responsibility fall on that "boss's" shoulders?

Does that apply to profiling people who are not American? Should a native New Zealander visiting this country be investigated as much as a native Saudi when applying for a visa?

Whether those things listed in the message actually happen in reality to the majority, the point is that in some cases, people who are obviously not a threat are searched, but people who could very well be a threat are not because we might "offend their dignity" or whatever. I don't see anywhere in his original message that he says that all Muslims between the ages of 17 to 40 should be searched at airports, deported, killed, or other.

Concerning the dmcowen case, the government of Georgia was proposing a punishment of an obscene number of years in prison plus a fine in the range of hundreds of thousands of dollars for his "crime" of installing nothing much more than a screensaver, and not being able (as I understand it) to provide written permission (not saying that he didn't have permission, either, just that he couldn't document it). If you believe everything the government tells you, then I guess you'd think that's fair and just. 😕

The overall point wasn't consent,it was the alarmist and reactionary action taken by the authorities... much of which undoubtedly came from the very sort of profiling being discussed here. A computer geek = hacker
I don't think so and I don't think muslim=terrorist either

It's funny, I find that many of the same people who fight affirmative action with "it's discrimination on the basis of race and religion" also are pro-profiling. Go fig.

You know what...I'm watching everyone. Especially all of YOU.
You people are the one's who frighten me the most.
I can spot a Muslim male extremist between the ages of 17 and 40 a mile away, but, any one of you psychos could slip up behind me while I'm waiting in the checkout line at Tops and I'd never even know it.

Yeah, I could be wrong, but I think you did. The same "questionaire", so to speak, has been all over Usenet and e-mail too.

Sometimes it is more effective to get your point across without ad-homing someone, but I realize your and Red already realize that. I am just saying, however, that it could have been tossed out there with some more substance to make people actually understand what he meant before they thought it was just a blatant ad-hom attack.

You're right, because profiling doesn't exist at all in this country. I don't pay more for car insurance than a girl, I wasn't one of thirteen MALES 'randomly' selected for an extra security screening, and I certainly don't get treated differently by CPD because I'm white. Of course they profile here! I know the individual who updates the "No-Fly" list in this country, and let me tell you, TSA doesn't draw numbers out of a hat to determine their policies pertaining to security.
